MPOE Room
MPOE Room: MPOE stands for Main Point of Entry. This is an area where the Main Service Provider for the entire building drops all the internal network circuits, fiber and copper internet foundation for the entire office building. All the main circuits for all the offices will be located in the MPOE Room. Think of it as the “front door” where the internet, phone, or data lines first enter.

Here’s what you need to know:
- Purpose: It’s the official handoff point between the service provider (like AT&T, Comcast, etc.) and the building owner or tenant.
- Location: Usually in a basement, utility closet, or a dedicated telecom room near where outside cables enter the building.
- Equipment Inside: You’ll often find the demarcation point (“demarc”), patch panels, distribution frames, or network interface devices.
- Responsibility: The provider is responsible for everything up to the MPOE, while the building owner or tenant is responsible for the wiring and equipment beyond the MPOE.
In simple terms: the MPOE room is where the internet enters the building and gets handed off for distribution inside.
For this reason, the MPOE room is usually locked and you will need security to access this area.
